The towing test
If you passed your driving test after January 1st 1997 and you want to tow a trailer weighing more than 750kg, or a vehicle and trailer with a combined weight of over 3.5 tonnes, you will need to take the B + E towing test in addition to your driving test. This may sound a lot but if you consider that the average 4 x 4 weighs 2.5 tonnes, and then add the weight of your trailer plus its load, the total can soon exceed 3.5 tonnes. Most horse trailers also fall into this category.
Tracy Hammond specialises in preparation for the B + E towing test and has an excellent pass rate. Towing lessons are either on an hourly or daily basis, offering refresher courses, help with reversing, correct hitching and unhitching and the B+E test syllabus. Although everyone is different most people only need a few hours tuition before taking their towing test. Lessons are generally two hours in length and Tracy will provide a vehicle and trailer or pupils can use their own if they prefer. The towing test At the test centre you will be required to answer a few questions on vehicle safety, perform a reversing exercise, execute a controlled stop and unhitch and hitch-up your trailer. This is followed by on road driving, where you will encounter varied road conditions, often including the motorway. Succeed with Passtime
